The industry-driven EFP process is designed to meet the needs of Alberta farmers and ranchers:
• The checklists have been developed, evaluated and fine-tuned by a wide range of Alberta producers and technical specialists.
• Experienced local producers lead the EFP workshops and tailor the workshops to meet the needs of the participants.
• The workshops and checklists are provided free of charge to participating producers.
• Every step in the process is completely voluntary.

The Environmental Farm Plan process begins with a regional workshop delivered by a trained Program Coordinator and a Technical Assistant. The workshop and workshop materials are provided free of charge to producers.
The workshop takes five to six hours. The time varies with the size and complexity of the producer's operations. Producers may be asked to complete some pre-workshop preparation.
