The industry-driven EFP process is designed to meet the needs of Alberta farmers and ranchers:
• The checklists have been developed, evaluated and fine-tuned by a wide range of Alberta producers and technical specialists.
• Experienced local producers lead the EFP workshops and tailor the workshops to meet the needs of the participants.
• The workshops and checklists are provided free of charge to participating producers.
• Every step in the process is completely voluntary.

The Environmental Farm Plan program consists of two workshops delivered by a trained Workshop Facilitator and a Technical Assistant. The workshops and workshop materials are provided free of charge to participants.
The workshops are usually scheduled one to two weeks apart to provide enough time for participants to complete the chapters and develop an action plan between the workshops. Each workshop takes 4 to 5 hours. The time varies with the size and complexity of the participants' operations.
Workshop scheduling is flexible. Facilitators will arrange times that suit the needs of each group participating in the program.
