Tips for better household wastewater management
July 23, 2007:
Household wastewater may contain harmful substances which can create serious health problems for yourself and your family. A few simple steps can go a long way towards reducing the risks of household wastewater:
- Make sure your septic system is sized for the expected daily volume of sewage. Also, look for ways to reduce the amount of wastewater that enters the septic system.
- Make sure your system is maintained and operated within its design parameters and that it disposes of sewage contaminants properly.
- Keep your septic system in good repair, inspecting it at intervals of no more than two years.
- Know and understand the legislation pertaining to management of household wastewater. Manage your operation to meet and, if possible, exceed legislation.
