Manage silage safely

Silage is an important source of feed for livestock and as long as it is handled and stored properly, it does not pose a significant environmental risk. However, if not handled properly, nutrient rich seepage may escape from silage storage and enter surface water bodies directly, through runoff or by entering surface water and groundwater by percolating through the soil. Here are some management tips:
