"Test drive" conservation tillage, say engineers

Producers have identified soil management as one of their five most-pressing environmental concerns. An effective way to sustain the vitality of the soil is conservation tillage. However, engineers with the AgTech Centre in Lethbridge say producers should "test drive" conservation tillage practices before committing to a full regime.

"There have been farmers that have jumped right into it and have had a bad experience as a result," says Lawrence Papworth. "It's always good to start small and find out which practices work and which do not."
