AEFP was established in 2002 as an industry-run, non-profit corporation that delivers EFP services to Alberta farmers.

AEFP operates with both public and private funds. Today AEFP operates with substantial support from several core public sources including:

• Over 150 local municipalities, businesses and agricultural organizations

Through the Agricultural Policy Framework (APF), the Government of Canada provides major funding to the EFP program in Alberta, with the Government of Alberta providing additional in-kind support services to help the agricultural sector develop and implement EFPs.

Additional support has been provided by the Agriculture and Food Council, through the Agricultural Environmental Stewardship Initiative, the Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture Council and various ministries of the Government of Alberta. Contributions have also come from more than 150 local municipalities, businesses and agricultural organizations.

In the future, the Company is designed to be self-sustaining. A significant amount of support will come from private industry and organizations. AEFP is drawing strong interest from many companies, producer organizations and others. This interest only makes sense. The future of all related agriculture and food companies, organizations and others depends on a sustainable agriculture and food system.

AEFP has designed a partnership initiative to ensure this support maintains the integrity of the EFP program.
